DISCOVER LES VOSGES

Round summits shrouded in mystery, amongst the lakes and forests

The charm of these magical mountains lies in their ever-changing nature. What takes your fancy? The soft lines of the mountains’ blue crests, the secret of the lakes, the rejuvenating energy of the forests, luminous and thick, or the “joie de vivre” of little villages tucked in the dip of the valleys.

The Vosges have their own culture, born of wood, water, and the textile tradition, they have created a rich and enticing heritage. Impressive or charming, always spellbinding, it offers you the layered history of a region that was the border of the Franco-Prussian war of 1871, known to the French as “La ligne bleue des Vosges”.

This territory lies not far from the German and Swiss borders, so when you head off on your hikes, you can enjoy cross-cultural interests and activities. Rather than jagged peaks, you will find rounded summits. Hence the name of the famous summit, “Ballon” – ball in French!

Mystic and magical, hike up the slopes past lakes and through forests whilst soaking up the rich cultural heritage that this green, blue and white world has to offer.

What to do in Les Vosges? Why not take a look at the Route of the Abbeys, or even the bracing winter holiday options?

DISCOVER AUBRAC

Infinite horizons

Discovering Aubrac means discovering the true spiritual core of France: ancient stone and steadfast scenery that has been shaped and battered by the elements, creating a space for scenic hikes and an idyllic escape.

A piece of Mongolia in France, this grassy desert land is the source of much ancient religious heritage, a diverse ecosystem and – because this is France – delicious cheese! It is even home to its own special alcohol, Gentiane, made from the root of the yellow flowers that grow here. Like its landscape and its spirit, Gentiane takes years to mature, making the region even more unique and mystical.

To add to its air of seclusion, the winter brings snow, which falls on the quiet winding roads making Aubrac even more untouchable and remote. Another world hidden within France, there are no impressively high summits, just age-old vibrations and infinite space which will leave you wondering which continent you are in.

We invite you to this magical place but warn you that you will not leave as the same person you were when you arrived.
